Ingredients

8 oz wheel of Brie cheese

1 large apple (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), diced

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional for added crunch)

2 tbsp unsalted butter

1 tbsp pure maple syrup

Fresh thyme leaves, for garnish (optional)

1 package of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

Crackers or sliced baguette, for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking.

Prepare the Apple Filling: In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, add the diced apples to the skillet and sauté for approximately 4-5 minutes, or until they start to soften. Sprinkle in the brown sugar and ground cinnamon, along with the chopped nuts (if using), and continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the apples are nicely caramelized. Remove the skillet from heat and drizzle the maple syrup over the mixture, stirring to combine well. Set aside to cool for a few minutes.

Wrap the Brie: On a lightly floured surface, gently unroll the puff pastry. Place the Brie wheel in the center of the pastry. Evenly spoon the apple mixture over the top of the Brie, spreading it out to cover as much of the cheese as possible.

Seal the Pastry: Carefully fold the edges of the puff pastry over the Brie, pinching them together to seal the package. If there is excess pastry, feel free to trim it away; you can use these scraps to cut out decorative shapes to place on top of the wrapped Brie if desired.

Bake: Transfer the wrapped Brie onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. For a beautiful golden finish, brush the pastry with an egg wash made from 1 beaten egg mixed with a splash of water. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Cool & Serve: After baking, remove the Brie from the oven and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes. If you like, garnish with fresh thyme leaves for an aromatic touch. Serve the warm, gooey Brie alongside an assortment of crackers or sliced baguette, perfect for dipping into the melty cheese and sweet apple filling.
