Ingredients

1 pound ground turkey

1/2 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs

1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

4 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)

1 tablespoon fresh oregano, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried oregano)

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

1/4 cup milk (or chicken broth for extra flavor)

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, whole wheat breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, parsley, oregano, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually pour in the milk and mix gently with your hands or a spatula until well blended; be cautious not to overmix, as this will help keep your meatballs tender.

Form the Meatballs: Using your hands, take about 2 tablespoons of the turkey mixture and roll it into a rounded ball. Place each meatball onto a parchment-lined baking sheet for easy handling. Continue this process until all the mixture is shaped into meatballs.

Brown the Meatballs (Optional): For a richer flavor and enhanced texture, heat a skillet over medium heat, and lightly brown the meatballs for 2-3 minutes on each side. This step is optional but will provide a delightful crust.

Slow Cook the Meatballs: In your slow cooker, spread half of the marinara sauce evenly over the bottom. Carefully arrange the meatballs on top in a single layer. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the meatballs, ensuring each one is generously coated.

Cook: Secure the lid on the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, until the meatballs are thoroughly cooked and the flavors have melded together beautifully.

Serve: Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to gently lift the meatballs out of the slow cooker and place them on a serving plate. Drizzle with some of the delicious marinara sauce from the slow cooker, and if desired, sprinkle with fresh basil leaves for a vibrant touch.

Store Leftovers: Should there be any leftovers, allow the meatballs to cool completely before transferring them into an airtight container. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for longer enjoyment.
