Ingredients

2 cups rolled oats

1 cup unsweetened apple sauce

1 large apple, peeled and diced

1/2 cup almond butter (or substitute with peanut butter)

1/4 cup honey or maple syrup

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional)

Instructions

Preheat & Prep: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare an 8x8 inch (or 9x9 inch) baking pan by greasing it lightly or lining it with parchment paper for hassle-free removal later.

Combine Ingredients: In a spacious mixing bowl, add the rolled oats, almond butter, apple sauce, honey (or maple syrup), ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Stir the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined and homogenous.

Add Apples & Mix-ins: Carefully fold in the diced apple, walnuts (if you choose to include them), dried cranberries or raisins (if desired), baking powder, and salt. Ensure that each ingredient is evenly distributed throughout the mixture for balanced flavor in every bite.

Spread & Press: Transfer your mixture to the prepared baking pan. Using a spatula or your hands, firmly press and spread the mixture into an even layer, making sure it reaches all corners of the pan.

Bake: Place the pan in your preheated oven and bake for approximately 25-30 minutes. The bars are ready when the edges turn a golden brown and the center feels set to the touch.

Cool & Slice: Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. If you used parchment paper, gently lift the bars out of the pan. Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into squares or bars.

Serve & Enjoy: These delicious oat bars can be enjoyed warm, at room temperature, or chilled. They make a perfect breakfast, snack, or dessert option!
